The Ins and Outs of WA State Law (sold out)
Please note that this class is sold out. If you’d like to get on the waiting list, contact us at info@pnwschool.com.
We are governed by WA state laws, and we tend to view them as static and immutable. But all of our state’s rules and laws were made up by people at some point, hopefully as a reflection of our core community values. There has been a flurry of rule changes since 2015 governing our behavior as LMTs, and more changes are coming later this year. These rule changes were created and/or influenced by human beings: citizens, our AMTA advisory group, stakeholders, the Board of Massage, and the Department of Health.
This class will thoroughly review some important segments of WA state massage law, as well as some interesting, important, and occasionally upsetting changes to our rules and laws. You will be given a document that distills some of the most pertinent sections of WA state massage law, and we will all take a self-graded, no-pressure “pop quiz” to learn more about our laws in a fun and interactive way.
Topics will include:
- Some of the heroes of crafting massage law, past and present
- Some of the bullets we’ve dodged legislatively
- Scope of practice for LMTs
- Rules around ‘sensitive’ areas of the body
- Can we issue ‘homework’ to our clients?
- CE requirements, past, present, and future
- CE: the letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law
- Updates (if any) on COVID safe practice rules for LMTs
- What it means to be a mandated reporter
- Unprofessional conduct and sexual misconduct guidelines
- Complaints, hearings, and “The Scarlet Letter”
… Although this class is a benefit for AMTA members, both AMTA members and non-members are welcome to join.
Please note: Each class size is limited to 12 students, with 2 instructors. Since this class is live, interactive, and free of charge, we ask those who register to fully commit to attending and participating.
Because of the currently recommended social distancing precautions, this class will be held on Zoom. Since much of this webinar will involve small group discussion, we ask that you keep your camera on throughout the webinar, unless a minor situation briefly comes up (there will be breaks every 60-75 minutes). We strongly recommend that you use either a desktop, laptop, or tablet with a good WiFi connection, and not a phone for the class.
